Last Morning

Mother stiff from yesterday's fall, but nowhere near as bad as I had feared. Planning to head to Leith for a look at the coast and will pick up my old friend the A1 just there and follow it south.

Ooops, spoke too soon...

Got mother down all the stone steps and rocky bits only to see her land on her arse down a grassy slope. Swollen knee and minor pains so not going far this afternoon.

Got to top and out came the sun. Will try not to fall on the way down.

Started climbing and the inevitable rain came.

One O'clock Gun

View from gun placement is great. Mother fallen for only the 2nd time.

Edinburgh Castle

Walked the long way round and ended up in a fantastic graveyard below the castle.

Edinburgh, I love you.

What a city. Never felt at home in a city before. I could live here.

Hadrian's Wall

Finally found a fort on the wall and then a tower. Shame it was so wet and windy. Leaving the area we happened across a part ruined abbey but didn't have time to stop.

Castlerigg Stones

Stopped for a quick look at the stones. My first proper ring and the weather is vile. Wind and rain. Hell of a spot though.

Pudding

Sticky toffee pudding last night was nearly the end of me. Took it easy with food this morning.  Just waiting for mother to sort herself out so I can pack the car. Next stop some stones.

Coniston

The drive here was all winding twisting roads through lovely scenery. Ruskin Museum is ok, it's keeping mother happy. I liked the Campbell stuff but not enough of it. It's a pretty village buy I dread to think what it's like in peak season ...

This is the view from the bedroom window. Not bad at all, just hoping for a little sun now.

Beer

Red Lion Grassmere. Very average pub but OK for a few pints to make me sleepy. Night walk back by lake, life. Could be worse.

Arrived.

Amazing drive from Holme across Saddleworth Moor. Brought interesting stuff away about Howard family. Arrived Lake District with only minor trauma. View from window in awesome.

Arrived in Holme and waiting for pie and chips.

Quaint pub and all looking lovely.

Setting Off

Sitting in the car waiting for mother to finish packing. Last minute fun. Then off to Lake District via Holme, all being well. Hurry up mother!
